Nonskid - May 5, 2015

Many of the pieces of equipment made at the Assistive Technology Center (ATC) require nonskid surfaces. Rather than purchase expensive adhesive material, we make our own nonskid. Skid-Tex (fine sand) is added to gray latex paint (color Dolphin Dream from Hirshfield’s) and applied over sealed wood. After the paint dries it gets two coats of clear varnish so the paint and sand does not wear off. The surface in the bottom picture shows the final product. So all you do is add some nonskid and you have created “assistive technology”! And thanks to Hirshfield’s! They donated $800 worth of supplies for finishing wood and making nonskid in the fall of 2014 to ATC! We are grateful for their support of our department and students!
