The Minneapolis Public Schools Special Education Department is a team of specialized professionals dedicated to ensuring students receive "individualized services and equitable instruction in their least restrictive environment. We are committed to educational evaluations and services that are not predicted by a student’s race." Our Special Education Department serves a little over 5,500 children who range in age from birth through 21. Each one of our schools serve students with special needs. Most students are served in their community schools and every effort is made to serve them in the general education setting. For students with unique needs, we have set up specialized programs in various schools across the district to meet these needs. Specialized Programs include: Early Childhood Special Education River Bend Education Center Transition Plus Harrison Education Center Catholic Charities Children’s Day Treatment/MPS Metro SJ (Day Treatment Program)
